Work on the new track section commences...

This weekend, we have started work on the new section of track that comes off the main loop at the top corner and goes over the old pond, to re join by the new station.

As you see in the image below, we need a set of points of about 30' radius at the station where the new track meets the existing. I am only guessing at the radius as there seems no way of measuring the it with so many trees in the way etc. It looks to be about 30' but could be less, maybe 25'. We decided to buy a 30' point kit from Maxitrack and build it best we can to fit the requirements. Meanwhile if anyone out there has a knack of looking and guessing an approximate point radius let me know what you think!

We decided to use our existing 10' radius set for the other end of this new section as they seemed the correct angle to send the track over the old pond.

Above: Laying out the junction of the 2 tracks it seems to be about , well, 30' radius?

The Maxitrack points allow for 2" adjustment either way (luckily)

Above: Guess the required point radius?

The old pond was full of roots and was a fair bit deeper than we thought but will add some interest on this new section.

Well lay the track and bridge first and then install a pond liner and fountain.

Above: A new lease of live for our dormant points. Ready to install in the section heading over to the pond.

Above: The points installed - the removed section was obviously installed where the points used to be. You can see a battern placed over the pond marking the approximate position of the proposed bridge. All of these points are going to be motorised and controlled from our 'signal box' as are our signals, more on that as it happens later.
