Help us create a miniature railway for Bushey

UPDATE November 2021: Because of the Coronavirus, work on the railway is on hold for now.
However, please do still
contact us if you are interested in volunteering and we will let you know when we are up and running again.

You can donate your time and volunteer to help us build and improve the railway. All ages and genders are welcome to help.

You dont have to have any knowledge of Miniature railways, just interest, enthusiasm and a bit of spare time.

You may have skills that we would find helpful, whether its track work, signalling or electronics, or you may have volunteered or worked on a railway before. Whatever your background, why not come and see us and join in?

In return all we can offer is a sense of achievement, a chance to gain knowledge and practical experience and unlimited rides on our loco (and a of course chance to meet up with like minded people who love railways of all sizes).

At the moment we dont have any volunteers, its just myself and my son so we need all the help we can get. As the railway becomes longer and more complicated, we are adding the following:

  • Another 28m of track taking the total length to 98m (just over 320ft)
*Update: 15 extra meters laid Jan 2020 so 13m left.

  • A bridge over the old pond
    Update: This is now complete.

  • Signaling (both Semaphore and lights) that will be remotely operated.
Update: Next on the list for Summer 2020.

  • Another station

  • A Signal box

  • 5 sets of Points that will be driven by point actuators

  • Update: 2 sets laid now so 3 to go.

We would also like to hear from anyone who has been involved in running or setting up a public miniature railway.

As a volunteer you would be welcome to join us on our days (or weekends) out visiting other railways around the country.

Coming up we are visiting the Phoenix MES railway in Telford and the ESSMEE Railway based at the Bath & West Showground.

Please note that this is a private railway, we are not open to the public and visitors are by appointment only at the moment but we plan to have open days next year.
