As we now have a new passenger carriage, our minds are turning to the painting, seats and buffers. Both our drivers truck and our passenger carriage are unpainted and without any of these jobs complete. We are writing to Maxitrack to find the correct paint code so we can match the rolling stock colour to the loco. After they have been painted, we also need to fit the buffers - but how high and how far apart?
Luckily we found some very helpful information on the GL5 (the Ground Level 5 inch Gauge Mainline Association) website as to the general standards adopted.
The guidelines show a 6" separation between the buffer centres and a height of 3 and 5/8" above the rail top. (+16th " - 1/4").
The guidelines also show some other measurements regarding coupling thickness and hook size. The GL5 Standards page can be found HERE (in PDFs Buffering and Draw gear 1 and 2)
